I have to say that I get more than what I had expected through 2014 GMB Young Leaders Homestay Program.
While staying with Japanese family and learning local culture at the same time, I had many moments which have changed my perspectives. At my host family, I always looked forward to dinner time. It's the best time for us to talk and share each other about Indonesia and Japan. There were many things to discuss and it's not about right and wrong. The differences make us open our mind and try to understand each other.
Experiencing new things which I can't find in Indonesia is always fun and challenging. Tea ceremony, cold weather, going to sento, public service, shrine and Japanese habit are things which always made me say 'Aha' and feel lucky to experience them. I took my time to observe every single thing which made me open my eyes and my heart. Seeing is believing.
Another thing which impressed me in this program was the opportunity to give presentation in front of hundred of foreigners at Kyoto University. That was my first time and it made me learn a lot. Having interaction with young people also gave me new perspective about Japan.
This program certainly has encouraged me to become a good ambassador who represents my country. It’s about responsibility and cultural understanding.
